Welcome to the Casey Jones Hi-railers! Our main focus is three-rail O gauge trains. This O scale sub-category is most commonly associated with trains from Lionel, Marx, K-Line, MTH, Atlas and a few others.

Three-rail trains were once commonplace in the front windows of department stores and around many family Christmas trees. Many of these trains from the past have become popular with collectors, which has added a whole other dimension to our hobby. Our members are as much collectors as they are modelers or operators of trains. And while many of our members are interested in the railroads that served Memphis during a specific time period, all three-rail O gauge/scale trains are welcome on the layout - any type, any road, any era.

The "Hi-railers" were founded in 2008 and currently have 15 active members. We meet on most Saturday mornings to work on our layout or other train-related projects.

"Hi-rail" refers to the type of modeling we do. It strives for a level of detail and realism that sits between toy-like on one end of the spectrum and absolute precision life-like realism on the other end. We like to think of it as the best of both worlds!
Members of our group finalize the layout plan using a paper template and then set out to construct the railroad.
Our main layout is an L-shaped railroad that measures approximately 32'x35'. It began life as a modular railroad that moved around between local shows. In 2014 it came to rest in a permanent location as it had grown too large to conveniently handle.

Our layout features three mainlines with several on-line industries and a passenger terminal. It is equipped to run trains in Conventional mode (transformer control) or using either Lionel's TMCC or MTH's DCS digital command systems.

You will see a variety of locomotives and cars (i.e., rolling stock) on our layout, as our members collect and operate trains from all different eras - and even sizes.
